Repertoire by function, not by taste
Songs that open, that hold, that ask for gifts, that close. The live has functions; the repertoire does too.
The repertoire of those who do live performances is not a list of the songs you like the most. It's a tool with functions: opening the room, holding onto those who arrived, emoting, creating the moment of the gift, closing with the desire to return.
Each function requires a type of music. The one that opens needs to be known and easy to sing along to. The one that holds requires energy. The one that moves requires silence in the room — and it's the time for the gift, not before.
